2025 Session Last amended: 2007 session

§ 4.035 — Executive Orders

Plain-Language Summary

Executive orders are official written directives from the governor. Emergency orders take effect right away, while other orders take effect 15 days after being published. Unless a different date is set, executive orders expire 90 days after the governor who issued them leaves office.

Practical Notes
If a governor issues an executive order that affects you or your business, check whether it is an emergency order (effective immediately) or a regular order (effective after 15 days). Also note that executive orders do not last forever and will expire after a change in governor.
