§ 403.34 — Optional Local Use of Statewide System

Plain-Language Summary

Local governments, nonprofits, and eligible private groups do not have to join the statewide ARMER public safety radio system. They may keep their existing radio equipment and will not be charged fees or have their service cut off if they choose not to participate. Those who decide to join must follow the Statewide Radio Board's approved plan.

Practical Notes
A city or county deciding whether to join the ARMER system should know the choice is entirely optional with no financial penalty for staying out. Once a local government commits to joining, it must meet all technical standards set by the Statewide Radio Board before connecting.
