§ 403.39 — Regional Radio Boards

Plain-Language Summary

Two or more counties, or a city and one or more counties, can form a regional radio board through a joint powers agreement to build and manage local additions to the statewide ARMER radio system. The board can hold radio licenses, set regional technical standards, enter contracts, own property, and apply for state grants. Tribal governments can also be added to a regional radio board's joint powers agreement with approval from all members.

Practical Notes
Local governments wanting to build their own radio infrastructure that connects to the ARMER backbone should establish or join a regional radio board. The regional board acts as the approved channel for receiving state public safety grants and coordinating local radio improvements with the statewide system.
