2025 Session Last amended: 2024 session

§ 424A.095 — Investments

Plain-Language Summary

This section governs relief association bylaws and what they must contain to comply with state law. Bylaws must address membership eligibility, benefit levels, board structure, voting procedures, and other governance matters. The bylaws must be consistent with Chapter 424A and cannot authorize benefits or practices that violate state law. Changes to bylaws must follow a specified amendment process.

Practical Notes
The bylaws are the governing document of the relief association and determine how it operates day-to-day. Firefighters and municipal officials should obtain and read the current bylaws to understand their rights and responsibilities. Any bylaw provision that conflicts with state law is invalid, so associations should review their bylaws regularly—especially after legislative changes—to make sure they remain compliant.
