§ 430.01 — Designation of Land for Various Uses

Plain-Language Summary

This section authorizes first-class city councils and park boards to designate land for streets, parks, parkways, parking lots, and pedestrian malls. The city council and park board must act jointly by concurrent resolution for streets, parks, and parkways, but the council can act alone for parking lots and pedestrian malls.

Practical Notes
This section is the starting point for a city to acquire land for public use under chapter 430. Once the resolution is passed, the city must follow the acquisition and assessment procedures in the rest of the chapter. This authority is in addition to, not a replacement for, other powers cities have under their charters.
