§ 447.37 — Powers Supplementary

This section clarifies that the hospital district powers granted in sections 447.31 through 447.37 are in addition to, not instead of, any other powers that counties, cities, or towns have to operate hospitals and nursing homes. No existing authority is taken away.
447.37 POWERS SUPPLEMENTARY.
The powers granted here are supplementary to and not in substitution for other powers of counties, cities, and towns in connection with the acquisition, betterment, administration, operation, and maintenance of hospitals and nursing homes and the creation of hospital districts.

Practical Notes
Local governments do not lose their existing hospital authority by forming or joining a hospital district. This prevents any argument that the district statutes are the only way local governments can be involved in hospital care. It preserves maximum flexibility for communities.
