2025 Session Last amended: 2005 session

§ 452.26 — Utility Joint Venture

Plain-Language Summary

This section extends the joint venture authority of section 452.25 to allow a municipal gas agency and municipal gas utilities to join a joint venture incorporated before June 30, 2004. The joint venture and any municipal gas agency that is a member can provide natural gas utility service to customers. This provision was enacted in 2005 to allow gas utilities to participate in existing joint ventures formed under the broader utility joint venture law.

Practical Notes
This section specifically enables natural gas utilities and municipal gas agencies to participate in utility joint ventures, supplementing the broader joint venture authority in section 452.25. Natural gas joint ventures can help smaller municipal gas utilities achieve cost savings and operational efficiencies by combining resources. The ‘before June 30, 2004’ restriction limits which existing joint ventures gas agencies can join under this section.
