§ 477A.17 — Lake Vermilion-soudan Underground Mine State Park; Annual Payments

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates a special higher payment rate for state-owned land within Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park in St. Louis County. Instead of the standard per-acre rate, the county receives 1.5 percent of the appraised value of state land each year. The payments are split equally among the county, the affected township, and school districts.

Practical Notes
This higher payment rate was created because the Soudan Underground Mine property was commercially valuable before becoming a state park. The 1.5 percent of value formula is more favorable than the standard per-acre PILT rate for high-value properties. School districts receiving these payments do not count them as county apportionments and they are not subject to aid recapture.
