§ 477C.02 — Qualifying for Police State Aid

Plain-Language Summary

To receive police state aid, each municipality must certify the number of peace officers it employed to the commissioner of revenue by March 15 each year. Part-year officers get partial credit based on full months worked. Late or inaccurate filings result in a penalty of 10% of the aid amount per week of delay.

Practical Notes
If your municipality employs police officers, the clerk must file the certification by March 15 to avoid losing aid money. Officers employed less than a full year get proportional credit. The penalty for late filing can be severe and accumulates weekly.
