2025 Session Last amended: 1998 session

§ 48A.14 — State Trust Institutions; Representative Trust Offices

Plain-Language Summary

State trust institutions can establish representative trust offices in Minnesota or other states. These offices can market trust services and perform certain limited functions, but they cannot accept new trust accounts or make investment decisions. The company must notify the commissioner before opening a representative office.

Practical Notes
Representative trust offices have limited powers compared to full trust offices. They serve mainly as marketing and client service locations. The distinction matters for regulatory purposes and determines what activities can be conducted at each location.
