§ 490.1211 — Uniformed Service

Plain-Language Summary

This section lets Minnesota judges who serve in the military get credit in their retirement plan for the time they spent in uniform. It covers both judges who return from active duty and judges who want to buy service credit for past military service.

Practical Notes
Judges returning from military service must apply within a set time period and pay the required contributions to get their retirement credit. The maximum service credit for military time is five years. The state court administrator must pay interest on the contributions.
