§ 504B.332 — Summons and Complaint; How Served

Plain-Language Summary

Eviction papers must be served on the tenant at least seven days before the court date, either in person or by mail and posting if the tenant cannot be found. For residential evictions, at least two personal service attempts on different days are required before using mail-and-posting, and landlords who regularly communicate electronically with tenants must also send a digital notice of the hearing.

Practical Notes
If you are being evicted, your landlord must follow strict rules about how and when they deliver the court papers to you, including multiple attempts to serve you in person.
