§ 514.672 — Environmental Lien

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates an environmental lien in favor of the state on real property of persons liable for cleanup costs. The lien attaches when cleanup costs are incurred, the person is notified, and a lien notice is filed. The lien continues until the cleanup liability is satisfied.

Practical Notes
If you are liable for environmental cleanup costs in Minnesota, the state can place a lien on your real property. The lien stays until you pay the cleanup costs or the statute of limitations runs out. The commissioner can release the lien if conditions are met.
