§ 514.979 — Advertising
Plain-Language Summary
This section prohibits self-service storage facilities from using the word 'warehouse' in their advertising unless they are licensed and bonded as a warehouse. They may use the term 'self-service storage facility.'
514.979 ADVERTISING.
No owner shall advertise or represent its services, or permit its services to be advertised or represented, in a manner that uses the word “warehouse” unless the owner is licensed and bonded as provided in chapter 231.
Nothing in this section prohibits the use of the term “self-service storage facility” in an advertisement or representation.

Practical Notes
Self-service storage facilities and warehouses are different under Minnesota law. Storage facilities cannot call themselves warehouses unless they meet the licensing and bonding requirements for warehouses.
