§ 518A.33 — Deduction From Income for Nonjoint Children

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains how a parent's child support obligation is reduced when that parent also has legal responsibility for children from another relationship. The deduction is 75% of the guideline amount for those other children.

Practical Notes
When this applies: When a parent paying or receiving child support also has children from another relationship. Who this affects: Parents with children from multiple relationships. Key points: If you already pay court-ordered support for children from another relationship, that amount is subtracted from your gross income. If you have other children living with you but no existing support order for them, you get a deduction equal to 75% of the guideline amount for those children.
