§ 542.03 — Official Misconduct, Where Cause Arose

Plain-Language Summary

This section says lawsuits against public officers for official actions must be tried in the county where the action took place. Lawsuits against state officials over land or water use may also be tried where the land or water is located.

Practical Notes
If you are suing a government official for something they did in their official role, the case is heard where the action happened. For disputes about state land or water, the court may allow the case to be tried in the county where the property is.
