§ 571.922 — Limitation on Wage Garnishment

Plain-Language Summary

Sets the maximum amount that can be taken from your wages. For non-child-support debts: 25% if you earn more than 80 times minimum wage per week, 15% if between 60-80 times, and 10% if between 40-60 times. Wages below 40 times minimum wage cannot be garnished at all. For child support: 50-65% depending on whether you support other dependents and how old the judgment is.

Practical Notes
This is the most important section for people facing wage garnishment. Minnesota’s limits are more protective than federal law. If you earn less than 40 times the state or federal minimum wage per week (whichever is higher), none of your wages can be garnished for non-child-support debts. No court can override these limits.
