§ 58A.03 — License and Registration Required

Plain-Language Summary

This section says that anyone who wants to work as a mortgage loan originator in Minnesota must get a license first. There are some exceptions, such as bank employees who are already registered, people helping family members, licensed attorneys, and certain nonprofit workers.

Practical Notes
If you originate mortgage loans in Minnesota without a license and do not qualify for an exemption, you are breaking the law. Independent contractor loan processors and underwriters must also get licensed. Manufactured home dealers have limited exemptions but must follow specific disclosure rules.
