§ 595.024 — Exception and Procedure

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets out the limited exceptions when a journalist can be required to reveal sources or unpublished information. A court must find that the information is clearly relevant and cannot be obtained any other way.

Practical Notes
The journalist shield is not absolute. A court can order disclosure if the information is critical to the case and there is no other way to get it. The party seeking the information must prove this through a court hearing.
