§ 5B.05 — Use of Designated Address

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires all people and organizations to accept the Safe at Home substitute address as the participant's real address. They cannot demand a participant's actual physical address unless a service would be impossible to provide without it. People and businesses that have been notified about a participant's protected status cannot share the participant's name or address.

Practical Notes
Once you are in the program, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations must use your Safe at Home address for all correspondence. They generally cannot require your physical address. If you notify someone in writing that you are a participant, they face legal consequences for sharing your information.
