2025 Session Last amended: 2023 session

§ 624.7173 — Subsequent Extensions and Termination

Plain-Language Summary

An extreme risk protection order can be extended for 6 to 12 months at a time if the original grounds still exist. The person under the order can ask to end it once every 6 months by proving they are no longer a risk.

Practical Notes
Both sides can go back to court — petitioners to extend the order, and respondents to try to end it early by showing they are no longer dangerous.
