§ 642.02 — Construction, Repair; Presence of Jailer

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires that lockup construction and repair plans must meet standards set by the commissioner of corrections. It also requires that a jailer or custodian must be present, awake, and alert at all times when a prisoner is being held.

Practical Notes
No prisoner can be left alone in a lockup. There must always be a jailer or custodian on duty, awake, and able to respond to the prisoner’s needs.
