§ 642.10 — Condemnation of Lockup

Plain-Language Summary

This section gives the commissioner of corrections the power to condemn a lockup if it is found to be unsafe or does not meet construction standards. Once condemned, the lockup cannot be used until the order is lifted.

Practical Notes
If a lockup is found to be dangerous or not up to code, the commissioner of corrections can shut it down. No prisoners can be held there while the condemnation order is in effect.
