§ 65A.06 — Motor Vehicle, Ocean and Inland Marine Policies

Plain-Language Summary

This law says that fire insurance for cars, motorcycles, and other motor vehicles, as well as ocean and inland marine insurance, does not have to follow the standard fire policy form when the fire coverage is combined with other types of insurance in one policy. However, this exception does not apply to insurance on buildings or structures.

Practical Notes
Your auto insurance policy that includes fire coverage does not need to match the standard fire insurance policy form. This means auto, boat, and cargo policies can have their own format and terms for fire coverage. But if you insure a building, the standard fire policy rules still apply.
