§ 65B.60 — Intentional Injuries

Plain-Language Summary

A person who intentionally causes or tries to cause injury to themselves or someone else is not eligible for no-fault auto insurance benefits for those injuries. However, acting with general recklessness (without the specific purpose of causing harm) does not disqualify someone, nor does acting in self-defense or to protect another person.

Practical Notes
If you deliberately cause a car accident to hurt yourself or someone else, you cannot collect no-fault benefits, but if the crash was due to reckless driving without intent to harm, benefits are still available.
