§ 84.036 — Peatland Scientific and Natural Areas; Designation

Plain-Language Summary

This section establishes 18 specific peatland areas as scientific and natural areas, listing each by name and the counties it lies in (for example, the Red Lake area in Beltrami, Koochiching, and Lake of the Woods Counties). Each area is made up of the core peatland identified on maps in the 1984 Department of Natural Resources report on protecting ecologically significant peatlands and on maps kept on file at the department. The designations are set directly by statute rather than left to the commissioner's discretion.

Practical Notes
This section protects specific peatland areas in Minnesota. It matters if you are involved in peat harvesting or land development near designated peatlands.
