2025 Session Last amended: 2019 session

§ 94.10 — Surveys, Appraisals, and Sale

Plain-Language Summary

Before selling surplus state land, the commissioner must establish its value and have it appraised if worth over $100,000. No parcel can be sold for less than $1,000. Local governments and Indian tribes get first chance to buy. Public sales require 30 days' newspaper notice. Unsold parcels can later be sold at 75% of appraised value, and the state can use real estate brokers.

Practical Notes
If you are a city, county, or school district, you have priority to buy surplus state land at appraised value with up to two years to begin payment. For private buyers, public sales require at least the appraised value plus timber and improvement costs. Online auctions are allowed.
