2025 Session Last amended: 2015 session

§ 94.16 — Disposition of Proceeds From Surplus State-owned Land

Plain-Language Summary

Money from selling surplus state land generally goes to the general fund. However, the commissioner's sale expenses are reimbursed first. Proceeds from outdoor recreation system lands go to the land acquisition account. Proceeds from administrative site sales go to a facilities account. Other non-recreation land proceeds go to the school trust lands account.

Practical Notes
The way surplus state land sale proceeds are distributed depends on what type of land was sold. Recreation lands fund future land acquisitions, administrative site sales fund facilities, and other state land sales support the school trust. The commissioner recovers sale-related expenses before any distribution.
