2025 Session Last amended: 2017 session

§ 94.344 — Class B Land Exchanged; Conditions

Plain-Language Summary

Class B land (tax-forfeited land held in trust for taxing districts) can be exchanged for other land in the same county with approval from the county board and Land Exchange Board. The exchange must be for land of substantially equal value. The county must hold a public hearing before approving any exchange. The state reserves the same rights as it would in a tax-forfeited land sale.

Practical Notes
If you want to exchange land for tax-forfeited property, contact the county auditor to submit a proposal. The county board and Land Exchange Board must both approve. Land classified but not eligible for sale, or in restricted zones, cannot be exchanged for private land. Title must be approved by the county attorney.
