The Lake Superior agate is the official gemstone of the state of Minnesota. §
Subd. 2.Photograph.
A photograph and a typical specimen of the Lake Superior agate shall be preserved in the Office of the Secretary of State.

Practical Notes
Lake Superior agates are found throughout Minnesota, deposited by glaciers during the ice age. They are popular with rock collectors and are commonly found along Lake Superior’s shores and in gravel pits across the state.
