§ 10.50 — Ethnic American Day

Plain-Language Summary

The first Sunday in June is designated Ethnic American Day in Minnesota to celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of all Minnesotans—from Native Americans who were the original inhabitants to immigrants from around the world who have shaped the state's culture. The governor can promote and encourage observance of this day, and public schools may offer programs to honor and preserve ethnic cultures and traditions.

Practical Notes
Ethnic American Day is a state-designated observance, not a legal holiday, so government offices and businesses remain open. Schools are encouraged but not required to provide related instruction or programming. The governor typically issues a proclamation recognizing the day each year, and community organizations may hold events celebrating Minnesota’s diverse population.
