§ 10.551 — India Day

Plain-Language Summary

August 15 is designated India Day in Minnesota to celebrate the culture, heritage, traditions, and contributions of Minnesotans of Indian ancestry. This date also marks India's independence day. The governor must issue a proclamation each year honoring the observance and encouraging Minnesotans to learn about and appreciate the Indian-American community's contributions to the state.

Practical Notes
India Day is a state-designated observance, not a legal holiday, so offices and businesses remain open. The governor is required to issue a proclamation annually recognizing the day. Community organizations, temples, and cultural groups often hold events on or around August 15 celebrating Indian culture and heritage in Minnesota.
