§ 10.565 — Hire a Veteran Month

Plain-Language Summary

July is designated Hire a Veteran Month in Minnesota to honor the service of all Americans who have served in the armed forces and to encourage employers to give serious consideration to hiring military veterans. The governor must issue a proclamation each year urging state agencies, local governments, and private employers to fairly consider veterans for employment. This observance recognizes both the sacrifice of veterans and the valuable skills they bring to the workforce.

Practical Notes
Hire a Veteran Month is a state-designated observance that encourages employers to recruit and hire veterans throughout July. State and local government agencies, in particular, are urged by the governor’s annual proclamation to make veteran hiring a priority. Employers who hire veterans may also be eligible for federal tax credits and other incentives under separate laws.
