§ 10.576 — Pow and Mia Recognition Day

Plain-Language Summary

The third Friday in September is designated POW and MIA Recognition Day in Minnesota to honor Minnesotans who were prisoners of war or who are still listed as missing in action. The observance recognizes the courage and sacrifice of those who endured captivity or were lost in service to their country. The governor must issue a proclamation honoring this observance each year.

Practical Notes
POW and MIA Recognition Day is a state-designated observance that coincides with the national POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is also the third Friday in September. Families of POW and MIA servicemembers may find this an important day for community remembrance events. The black POW/MIA flag is often flown at government buildings and veterans’ organizations on this day.
