§ 10.576 — Pow and Mia Recognition Day

10.576 POW AND MIA RECOGNITION DAY.
The third Friday in September of each year is designated as Prisoners of War (POW) and Missing in Action (MIA) Recognition Day to honor and recognize the courage and sacrifices of individuals from Minnesota who have been prisoners of war or who are missing in action. Each year, the governor shall issue a proclamation honoring this observance.

Practical Notes
POW and MIA Recognition Day is a state-designated observance that coincides with the national POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is also the third Friday in September. Families of POW and MIA servicemembers may find this an important day for community remembrance events. The black POW/MIA flag is often flown at government buildings and veterans’ organizations on this day.
