§ 10.59 — Dr. Norman E. Borlaug World Food Prize Day

Borlaug, whose work in agriculture has resulted in saving millions of human lives by averting famine and alleviating hunger and malnutrition. The governor may take any action necessary to promote and encourage the observance of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug World Food Prize Day and public schools may offer instruction and programs on the occasion.

Practical Notes

Dr. Borlaug is widely credited with starting the Green Revolution through development of high-yield, disease-resistant crops that dramatically increased food production in developing countries. October 16 coincides with World Food Day, established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Schools and agricultural organizations may use this occasion to teach about food security and agricultural science.
