§ 16A.133 — Credit Union, Parking, Other Deductions

Plain-Language Summary

State agency heads must honor written requests from employees to have all or part of their pay directly deposited to a credit union or financial institution of the employee's choosing. Agencies must also deduct pay for membership dues to the Minnesota Benefit Association or certain employee organizations if the employee requests it in writing. With employee consent, agencies can also deduct pay for state-provided services like parking facilities or housing.

Practical Notes
State employees in any branch of government can use this law to set up payroll direct deposit to their preferred financial institution or credit union by submitting a written request to their agency. Deductions for benefit association memberships and similar organizations are also available on written request. Agencies are required to honor these requests—they cannot refuse to process properly submitted payroll deduction forms.
