§ 3.098 — Expense Reports

The Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate are each required by their own rules to produce detailed quarterly expense reports to their respective rules and legislative administration committees. These reports must show the expenditures of each chamber in detail. All of these reports are public information that anyone can access.
3.098 EXPENSE REPORTS.
The house of representatives and senate shall by rule require detailed quarterly reports of expenditures by the house of representatives and senate to their respective committees on rules and legislative administration. These reports are public information.

Practical Notes
Citizens, journalists, and researchers interested in how the legislature spends money can request these quarterly expense reports. The requirement to report to their own committees means both chambers must account for their spending within their own internal oversight processes. These reports can be used to track legislative travel, staff costs, and other operational expenses.
