§ 103D.311 — Appointing Managers

Plain-Language Summary

This section covers how watershed district managers are appointed. Managers must be voting residents of the district and cannot hold county, state, or federal office (except soil and water supervisors). County commissioners appoint managers, and public notice must be published at least 15 days before appointments.

Practical Notes
If you want to become a watershed district manager, watch for published notices from your county board at least 15 days before appointments. For metropolitan-area districts and city-initiated districts, cities and towns nominate candidates (at least 3 per position), and county commissioners choose from those nominees. Appointments must be recorded with the county auditor and BWSR.
