§ 103D.357 — Removal of Managers

Plain-Language Summary

A watershed district manager can be removed from their position before their term ends. The appointing authority (usually the county board) can remove a manager by majority vote for ethics violations, malfeasance, nonfeasance, or misfeasance. The manager must be given a chance to have a hearing first.

Practical Notes
This provision was added in 2024 and gives county boards a formal process to remove problematic watershed district managers. Removal requires a majority vote and the manager must be offered a hearing. Grounds include violating the district’s or county’s code of ethics, or failing to properly perform duties.
