§ 103D.357 — Removal of Managers

A watershed district manager can be removed from their position before their term ends. The appointing authority (usually the county board) can remove a manager by majority vote for ethics violations, malfeasance, nonfeasance, or misfeasance. 103D.357 REMOVAL OF MANAGERS.
After being provided an opportunity for a hearing before the appointing authority, a manager of a watershed district may be removed from the position by a majority vote of the appointing authority before term expiration for violation of a code of ethics of the watershed district or appointing authority or for malfeasance, nonfeasance, or misfeasance.

Practical Notes
This provision was added in 2024 and gives county boards a formal process to remove problematic watershed district managers. Removal requires a majority vote and the manager must be offered a hearing. Grounds include violating the district’s or county’s code of ethics, or failing to properly perform duties.
