§ 103I.505 — Reciprocity of Licenses and Registrations

Plain-Language Summary

Minnesota can grant well and boring contractor licenses to people already licensed in other states without requiring them to retake the exam. The other state's licensing requirements must not conflict with Minnesota law, must meet at least the same standards as Minnesota, and the other state must give Minnesota licensees the same reciprocal treatment. Applicants still must apply and pay the required fees.

Practical Notes
Licensed well contractors from other states can apply for a Minnesota license without sitting for the state exam if their home state qualifies for reciprocity. This makes it easier for out-of-state contractors to work on projects that cross state lines or to relocate to Minnesota. The contractor still pays all applicable fees and must comply with all Minnesota requirements.
