§ 124D.76 — American Indian Education Program Coordinators, Paraprofessionals

Plain-Language Summary

Schools with American Indian education programs may hire paraprofessionals to assist, but they cannot replace licensed teachers. Districts with 100 or more American Indian students must hire at least one dedicated American Indian education coordinator who promotes communication between schools and families and visits homes to explain the program.

Practical Notes
Larger districts with 100 or more American Indian students are required to have a dedicated coordinator who serves as a bridge between the school and American Indian families. Paraprofessionals can assist but cannot take over the role of licensed American Indian education teachers.
