§ 135A.1581 — Navigators for Parenting Students

Plain-Language Summary

This section requires Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and eligible private colleges to assign at least one employee as a navigator to help parenting students. The navigator connects students with resources like health coverage, food assistance, housing, child care, transportation, and academic support. Schools must also begin collecting data on parenting students by 2026.

Practical Notes
If you are a college student who is a parent or guardian of a child under 18, your school must have a designated navigator to help you find support services. Annual reports starting in 2028 will track how parenting students are doing in terms of enrollment, retention, completion, and debt.
