§ 136A.1276 — Alternative Teacher Preparation Grant Program

Plain-Language Summary

Creates a state grant program that awards grants to eligible alternative teacher preparation programs working to fill Minnesota's teacher shortage areas. Grants go to school districts, charter schools, or qualifying nonprofits that have operated continuously for at least three years, not to individual teacher candidates. Recipients may use the funds to gain program approval, expand into shortage licensure areas, recruit and train teachers who reflect student diversity, or run professional development.

Practical Notes
This program funds the teacher preparation programs themselves, not individual students. If you run a school district, charter school, or qualifying nonprofit that operates an alternative teacher preparation program addressing Minnesota’s teacher shortages, you may be eligible to apply for a grant.
