§ 136A.1796 — Tribal College Supplemental Grant Assistance

Plain-Language Summary

This section provides supplemental grant funding to Tribally controlled colleges in Minnesota to help cover the cost of educating their students. Grants go directly to the college, not to individual students, for both beneficiary students (Minnesota residents who are enrolled members of a federally recognized Indian Tribe) and nonbeneficiary students (Minnesota residents who are not). A qualifying college that applies receives $5,300 per full-time-equivalent student during each year of the biennium, prorated if the appropriation is insufficient. Each college must report annually on how it spent the funds and on student enrollment.

Practical Notes
If you attend a Tribally controlled college in Minnesota, this funding flows to the college rather than to you directly, and it helps offset the school’s cost of educating its students.
