§ 136A.653 — Exemptions

Plain-Language Summary

Certain schools can apply for exemption from registration and degree approval requirements.

Practical Notes
Schools that qualify may be exempt from these registration and degree-approval rules. The categories include private career schools licensed by the office, Tribal colleges, training programs run by nonprofit trade or professional organizations only for their members, employee training provided by business firms at no cost to employees, very low-cost or tuition-free courses (where charges do not exceed two percent of average undergraduate tuition), and institutions accredited by the Higher Learning Commission whose primary physical location is in Minnesota. A general exemption granted on application expires two years after approval, or sooner if the school adds a new program or modifies an existing program by 25 percent or more.
