§ 148G.08 — Identification of Certified Midwives

This section restricts use of the professional title 'certified midwife' to persons who hold a current Minnesota license. Licensed certified midwives must use the designation 'CM' for professional identification and in all documentation of services provided to clients.
148G.08 IDENTIFICATION OF CERTIFIED MIDWIVES.
Only those persons who hold a current license to practice certified midwifery in Minnesota may use the title of certified midwife. A certified midwife licensed by the board must use the designation of “CM” for professional identification and in documentation of services provided.

Practical Notes
Only licensed certified midwives can call themselves ‘certified midwife’ or use the ‘CM’ designation in Minnesota. Using this title without a license is a violation under section 148G.20 and can result in criminal penalties. Licensed midwives should use ‘CM’ consistently in all professional communications and patient records.
