§ 176.874 — Police Officers Contracting Tuberculosis

Plain-Language Summary

This section gives state, county, or municipal police officers workers' compensation coverage when they contract tuberculosis through work. An officer whose duties bring or brought them into contact with people afflicted with tuberculosis, and who then contracts or becomes ill from it, is entitled to the medical care and compensation provided by sections 176.874 to 176.876. "Contracts tuberculosis" means the development of demonstrable tuberculosis in the officer.

Practical Notes
If you are a state, county, or municipal police officer whose duties brought you into contact with people who have tuberculosis, and you then develop demonstrable tuberculosis, you are entitled to medical care and compensation under sections 176.874 to 176.876. The illness must actually develop as demonstrable tuberculosis, not merely a risk of exposure.
