§ 18G.05 — Discovery of Plant Pests; Official Marking of Infested or Infected Articles

Plain-Language Summary

When plant pests are found in Minnesota, the commissioner may physically mark all infected or infested plants and areas with official notices. Property owners and businesses must be notified about the pest's presence and told what control steps are required. Once the commissioner determines the pest has been sufficiently controlled or eliminated, the control order is lifted.

Practical Notes
Official markings on your plants or property by state agriculture officials signal that you must take action. Removing or ignoring official markings or failing to carry out required control measures can result in enforcement action. Work with the department promptly when you receive notification — the order is released once the problem is resolved.
