§ 611A.57 — Determination of Claims

Plain-Language Summary

Board staff investigates each claim and the executive director decides whether to approve it. If the director cannot decide alone, the full board discusses and votes. Claimants who are denied can ask for reconsideration within 30 days, and if still denied, can request a formal contested case hearing. Claim records are kept private.

Practical Notes
If your claim is denied, you have 30 days to ask the board to reconsider. If denied again after reconsideration, you have the right to a formal hearing under chapter 14. Your claim documents are private data and not publicly available.
