§ 430.15 — Payment by City; Gifts

430.15 PAYMENT BY CITY; GIFTS.
A city may, if it has funds available from other sources, pay part of the cost of an improvement and raise the rest by the methods provided in this chapter. The city may also accept gifts to be used to pay for an improvement.

Practical Notes
Cities are not required to pass all improvement costs to property owners through special assessments — they can subsidize projects with general fund money or private donations. Property owners facing large assessment bills should be aware that advocacy for city cost-sharing is possible.
